Scuba Diving Liveaboards

Scuba Diving Liveaboards

If you are a scuba diver looking for the ultimate diving vacation, then scuba diving liveaboards are the best choice. The focus of a scuba diving liveaboard is diving. You will likely be able to dive 3 or 4 dives a day with a night dive added in.

Many liveaboards will have an early morning dive, where you can watch the reef wake up. Then there is time for your breakfast while you enjoy the surface interval. Another dive fills the morning till lunch. The afternoon will bring another dive or two. You might have a late dinner so that you can get in an evening dive as well. There are some dive boats that use an "Open Gate" policy.  You attend a dive site briefing before the gate opens, and can dive anytime the gate is up. Generally 3 or 4 hours. The controlling factor is not the number of dives, but if your dive computer allows the dive. After the gate is closed and all divers are back on board, the vessel may move to a second location and the process is repeated. Many land-based dive destinations are supported by a dozen or more dive operators, and they all seem to want to dive the same dive sites. I have been on dive sites in Cozumel that had over 15 dive boats and 300 divers on the site. I have been on scuba diving liveaboards where there were only a dozen divers and did not see another dive boat for a week.

Not That Expensive

When you look at the price of a liveaboard, it might seem high. However, consider all that is included. Four dives a day will likely cost you more than $200 a day. How much will you spend on your accommodations? On a liveaboard, that cost is included. Meals are often simple, but they are filling and included. Most dive destinations around the world have scuba diving liveaboards, however, many dive sites are far from land and only dived by these overnight boats. Here are some articles I have done on this site for liveaboards.
