The Scuba Diving Nomad
I have been diving for over 23 years now, and I am nearing 1,000 dives. For a dive professional such as a divemaster or an instructor that is a good milestone but not uncommon. However, for a recreational diver, it is a big accomplishment. I learned how to dive in the Philippines, and most of my first 150 dives were there. The majority of them are at Subic Bay. However, I have been diving in many places around the world. I have had two liveaboard trips to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. One was in the Whitsundays area and the other from Cairns. I have also been diving on the 2nd and 3rd largest barrier reefs. The Mesoamerican reef system off the coast of Mexico down to Honduras, including the Belize Barrier Reef, is the second largest. Cozumel and Cancun, as well as Playa del Carmen, are well-known dive destinations along the northern portion of the reef system. The third-largest barrier reef is the Florida reef. This system is offshore of the Florida Keys and continues north past Fort Lauderdale. I have been diving in many of the Caribbean countries as well as Thailand, and Malaysia.Diving Around The World
Years ago I picked the nickname the Scuba Diving Nomad. At the time, I was living in the Philippines and spent about 3 months of the year traveling. Thailand was my most frequent destination, however, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore were also frequent trips. Living back in the states, my travel was reduced to about 2 months a year and my most frequent destination was the Philippines. The travel restrictions due to COVID have paused the long international trip. Once the world becomes back to normal, I will start traveling again. The articles in this category will be about scuba diving and diving destinations.-
